Day excursion: Survivors of the Taiga forest - 1 Day

During our Survivors of the Taiga forest excursion, we photograph birds and animals which remain in the Inari region throughout the winter, such as siberian jays, dippers, moose, reindeers and roe deers.

We leave for this day excursion from Ivalo heading towards the northwestern part of Inari in our eight person mini-bus at around 9.00 am. Clients will be picked-up at their hotels at agreed upon times. After a 40 minute drive, we stop to photograph cute dippers at Riutula Kettukoski, situated in the northern part of the village of Inari. The trip continues towards the Sami village of Angeli, close to the Norwegian border. We will photograph the free- reign reindeer grazing and digging for food deep in the snow along the Angeli road. Near the Norwegian border we may get a chance to photograph moose, and with luck, some timid roe deers which are fed by locals over the winter months. Snacks will be provided en route. The return to Ivalo will conclude the afternoon.

A dipper is a small, sturdy bird with strong legs and a short tail. Many of the dippers which winter in the region, return to northern Norway to breed in the summer. Dippers usually live in forest areas with shallow streams and spend their winters near open rapids. Even though Lapland winters are snowy and cold, there are rivers which have unfrozen whitewater areas.Dippers inhabit these locations. Mooseare tall, big-sized mammals which live in northern boreal forest areas.

Species we expect to encounter: dipper, siberian jay, raven, reindeer, moose, roe deer and red fox.
